Asian Heritage Month is an opportunity for all Canadians to learn more about the many achievements and contributions of Canadians of Asian descent who, throughout our history, have done so much to make Canada the amazing country we share today.

The theme for Asian Heritage Month 2021, “Recognition, Resilience, and Resolve”, embodies the myriad of sentiments that peoples of Asian descent in Canada have experienced and honours their contributions and their diverse stories which are rooted in resilience and perseverance. It is also a call to action for all Canadians to come together to combat all forms of anti-Asian racism and discrimination. Let us celebrate the incredible diversity that is our strength and be resolute in our stand against all forms of anti-Asian racism and discrimination.

Natalie began her musical studies at the age of 3. She started playing violin at the age of 7. At the age of 16 she received the ARCT performance diploma at the Royal Conservatory of Music. She majored in violin performance at University of Toronto. Her list of mentors includes Scott St. John, Annalee Patipatanakoon, Katharine Rapoport and Jacques Israelievitch. Natalie also has an extensive background in music theory and composition, having studied with Abigail Richardson and Alexander Rapoport. She has studied jazz with renowned Indonesian saxophonist Budi Winarto and is continuing on her venture of immersing deeper into this genre.

She actively performs in orchestral, chamber music, musical theatre, jazz and pop concerts. She is currently a core member in the tutti first violin section of the Niagara Symphony Orchestra, and she is the principal second violinist of the Summerhill Orchestra. She has also been playing with Sudbury Symphony, Toronto Concert Orchestra, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Opera York, National Academy Orchestra, Windsor Symphony, and many more. Aside from orchestras, she actively performs in various ensembles including rock, pop and jazz combos, guitar duos and trios, and virtuosic solo violin with tracks.

Natalie is very active in musical theatre and has played in shows on violin and other instruments for both classical and contemporary productions. She has also been active as violinist and vocalist in numerous bands in the past 15 years with a wide spectrum of genres including pop, folk, R&B, jazz, rock and metal, performed in numerous events, broadcasted television productions, and recorded for soundtracks and albums. She is a singer-songwriter, composer and arranger who works and performs with fellow singer-songwriters and various musical ensembles on both acoustic and electric violin.

In her spare time Natalie enjoys reading, writing, and playing more music.
